                                                                            "CANS FOR PLANS"

For all of our estate planning clients, we offer a unique opportunity to help feed our area’s hungry:  When you come to sign your plan documents or attend one of our planning workshops, we ask you to bring some canned foods which we regularly donate to the Cleveland Food Bank: Hence, it’s “Cans for Plans!”  We will even secure you a tax-deductible receipt for your kind donation from the Cleveland Food Bank.

The Cleveland Food Bank serves the needs of Cleveland’s hungry and distributes food throughout six counties in northeast Ohio. During their last fiscal year, the Cleveland Food Bank served an astonishing 27.3 million pounds of food across Northeast Ohio through 456 member agencies, providing food for over 21.3 million meals for individuals in need.

While you can quickly learn all about the Cleveland Food Bank at
www.clevelandfoodbank.com, here are some key points about the Cleveland Food Bank:

FIRST: The Cleveland Food Bank does not distribute food directly to those in need; rather, it as a kind of         charitable wholesaler and supplies a majority of the food used in local hot meal sites, including working through church and other religious groups, shelters, and food pantries. In addition, it provides food to child care centers, group homes, and programs for the elderly.

SECOND: The Cleveland Food Bank has merged with Food Rescue of Northeast Ohio, another local nonprofit food distributor. The Food Bank focuses primarily on the distribution of nonperishable food-- and that’s where our “Cans for Plans” program comes in. Meanwhile, Food Rescue of Northeast Ohio had focused on providing fresh, frozen and prepared food. So the Food Bank is now able to provide local hunger centers with access to a wider variety of nutritious food for their clients.

THIRD: The Harvest for Hunger Campaign is now a support arm for the Foodbank and runs its campaign every March at local grocery stores and other outlets.

While all canned goods of wholesome foods are welcome, the items the Foodbank advises in which it is most in need are:

Canned Beef Stew
Canned Soup
Canned Vegetables
Peanut Butter
Canned Tuna Fish

Of course, our Cans for Plans program is entirely voluntary, and we don’t pressure or embarrass anyone who chooses not to give to this particular charity. Maybe you already contributed through the Harvest through Hunger program—or not-- whatever, it’s a free country. We are, however, excited that our Cans for Plans will make a difference in the lives of people right here in northeast Ohio.
