Looking for more sources on estate planning and elder law?
Let me start off with a little self-promotion, but only because it may prove very helpful! We've just started up a law firm web page on Facebook. Check out our Facebook account, Kevin Purcell Co., Legal Professional Association. Our Discussion Forum page is interactive, will be a compilation of relevant and (hopefully) informative articles on planning your estate and welcomes your comments to the articles that I post on it. Remember, estate planning is always a dialogue, so we welcome your comments and feedback.
The American Bar Association maintains some basic estate planning resources as well. Go to www.abnet.org, and click on "Public Resources". When there, find the link for "Estate Planning, Wills, Probate and Trusts". This site is also a good "primer" to cover some of the basic estate planning concepts
For an excellent web site for information concerning Ohio Medicaid issues, log on to www.proseniors.org.
Believe it or not, the Internal Revenue Service maintains a well-run, fairly user-friendly website at www.irs.org. It often contains helpful hints, including scams to avoid and "breaking news" items relating to tax law.
Attention Veterans! Did you know that over 60% of VA benefits for which a Veteran may be eligible are not even applied for? While our office will guide you through the maze of VA departments and programs, its web site www.va.gov is a useful tool.
Considering charitable planning? Charitable planning affords you an opportunity to do good for our community or world AND reduce your tax liability at the same time. While seeing an attorney is critical to exploring your charitable planning options, the Northern Ohio Planned Giving Council is a good start for information. Log on to www.nopgc.org. A very well run charitable organization exists right here in our backyard! The Cleveland Foundation has received high praises for its well organized management of charitable bequests. While we do not endorse any particular charity or charitable foundation, its web site can be a good source of information. It is located at www.clevelandfoundation.org .
Have a loved one in need of nursing home care? First, talk to us! There are alternative options to a nursing home, that of which you are probably not aware. Exploring these options can improve the quality of life of your loved one and save him or her thousands of dollars--perhaps a life savings--on the high cost of nursing homes. If a nursing home is clearly needed, however, which one do you choose? The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is an excellent source of information on nursing homes, including information on specific homes, the number of complaints each has received, and other valuable information. Try them out at www.ltco.org.
Looking for an estate planning attorney? Check out Martindale Hubbell web site www.martindalehubbell.com for Cleveland (or Rocky River) estate planning attorneys. Martindale Hubbell is the web site of choice for lawyers across the country looking for an attorney in another geographic area in a certain field of specialization as it rates attorneys according how their peers have evaluated them for 1) legal knowledge; 2) analytical capacity; 3) judgment; 4) communication abilities; and 5) experience I am honored to say I have been peer review rated 5.0 out of 5.0 in each of these five catagories by Martindale-Hubbell. For the public, try www.lawyers.com. Just enter my name, "Kevin Purcell" to learn a bit more about our office, nature of our practice and service to the community.
