It’s Sad but True…
Do you know most Veterans and their spouses, including their surviving spouses, do not claim the benefits to which they are entitled? The reasons for this situation are twofold:
First, many Veterans or family members simply do not know that they are entitled to these benefits. It is not that the VA is hiding them: If you are a Veteran or the spouse of a Veteran, they want you to know about them, but they are simply understaffed. That is why they have adopted the Accredited Attorney Veterans Administration program. There are, however, simply not enough Accredited VA attorneys to “get the word out”.
Second, VA benefits are somewhat spread through a maze of dozens of laws passed at different times over the course of our country’s history while Veterans were bravely serving their country in times of trouble, turmoil, and peace. It often takes the help of an attorney who uses his or her knowledge of these laws and planning skills before filing the right application for benefits.
If you are a Veteran, a spouse or a surviving spouse of a Veteran, call us. While we are planning a client’s Medicaid eligibility to prevent the catastrophic loss of all your assets to a nursing home, we typically can plan for the Veteran’s Benefits to which you are entitled. Since each benefit can affect the other, it is important that they be planned for at the same time.
